Tidepool Refracted

Tidepool Refracted

Fun abstracted view of a tidepool with actual sculpted barnacles! The colors bring to life the sunny summer days on Puget Sound.

Foggy View to North Head Light

Foggy View to North Head Light

I used a textured underlayment to enhance this misty view from the jetty across to north Head Lighthouse. This is a studio pastel done from plein air piece accomplished at Cape Disappointment State Park, Wa. It is featured in the Plein Air Washington State Parks Show and book.

Copper Sun Garden

Copper Sun Garden

Complex piece with multiple textures including use of icing bag for line textures and copper leaf sun! Covered with yummy pastels it was in a recent Regional Show, and attracted a lot of attention.

33"H x 24"W

Barley Cottage

Barley Cottage

I was at the US Open Plein Air Competition on Whidbey Island, Wa- and exploring at sunset. I had to take a photo of this view- not enough time to paint on site. Back in the studio, I sculpted the underlayment and used every sunset toned pastel in the box! This won an award at International Pastel Show.

Ft Casey Comanders Quarters

Ft Casey Comanders Quarters

This small piece has all the texture of my larger works, and twice the color- there is nothing better than a full blown Puget Sound sunset!

8"H x 10"W

Tukwila Bend

Tukwila Bend

Abstracted Studio piece from photo taken during Tulwila centennial paint out. The day I did this piece- we had a strange orange light on the landscape due to forest fires in BC, and the light haunted my painting.

20"H x 12"W

Back Road to Chimayo

Back Road to Chimayo

Massive roadside trees along a gravel road west of Santa Fe at High Noon- and I only had time for a quick photo. Later at home in the studio I strived to capture the quiet mood of the setting.

14"H x 11"W

Lupine Spires

Lupine Spires

Abstracted composition of Russel Lupines on textured and gessoed foam core. This piece was also in the "cutting edge" Pastel show at Blue Horse gallery in Bellingham.

20"H x 16"W

Winter Solstice

Sawtooth Summer

Sawtooth Summer

I took the reference photo for this piece the same day I painted Mt Rainier. I painted the scene in texture first on gator board- then added pumice ground before I applied any pastels.

Lavender Farm
